Port Douglas with the Sony RX-1

The Sony RX-1 has to be the perfect travel camera. When Karin and I decided to go to Port Douglas for my 50th birthday, I hummed and hahhed in the weeks leading up to to the trip, what cameras to take. Really wanted to take the Hasselblad 903SWC, but also wanted whatever I took to fit in my Ona Brixton. The obvious choice the RX-1.

The time difference between NZ and Australia makes it pretty easy to get up for Sunrises when visiting Australia. Was there for 14 days and never really got the sunrise with the horizon free of clouds. Got some great colours though.

While there we went on a number of excellent walks. The photo below was part of Mossman Gorge walk. A really nice track nice little waterfall at the top.

The second week we were there the sunrises were a little more subdued. Being the tropics though there was no shortage of coconuts.

Rocks and a sunrise always give an excuse to shot long exposure. A couple below at the Port Douglas end of Four Mile beach.

This was our third visit to Port Douglas and first two weeks of September has to be the best time to go. Weather is perfect and is just before the school holidays in Australia. We had 5 days in Palm Cove, 4 days at the Sheraton in PD and 5 days at the Sea Temple. This means we had deals on the three golf courses we played while there. Recommend anyone looking for a tropical holiday that is frustrated with Island time, go to Port Douglas.
